The Battle of Passchendaele 31/07/1917 – 10/11/1917
The battle of Passchendaele formed the last part of the third battle of Ypres. With this, general Haig tried to force his way trough the enemey lines towards the Belgian harbours. It has been a hard fight for 100 days to advance only 8 km. Passchendaele was the terminal point. The losses on both sides were unimaginable: 463.000 dead, wounded or missing. The names Zonnebeke, Hill 62 and Zillebeke were terrifying, even before they arrived there, “But Passchendaele was even worse, it was simply disgusting”. The Passchendaele Award is a memorial of this insane war.
